Kickstarter Reward Kitting: Plan Mixed Bundles Before Shipping
By MoldShifu · Project planning guide · Updated 5 October 2026
Plan a reward kit as a rule, not just a picture of a box. Give each item an ID, write the contents of each reward tier and define how add-ons change the pack. Then test the rule against a few representative orders before bulk packing.
Build a reward matrix before receiving stock.
| Order type | Base kit | Add-on rule | Check |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tier A | Sticker sheet + box | Add only the listed purchased items | Correct sticker design and quantity |
| Tier B | Sticker sheet + pin + box | Do not count the included pin again | Pin quantity and protection |
| Replacement / exception | Agreed replacement items | Separate from normal reward logic | Approval and reason recorded |
Keep SKU, kit and recipient data separate.
SKU / BOM
Defines the actual items, quantities per kit, specifications and approved versions. It supports purchasing and stock counts.
Download a demo matrix ↗Order / recipient file
Defines what each order receives and where it will go. Agree a controlled transfer after the packing and shipping plan is accepted.
Review data handoff ↗Send countries and approximate order counts in an initial brief. Full addresses belong in the agreed fulfillment handoff, with access, correction deadlines and responsibility defined.
Run a pack-out trial.
- Choose an order from each reward tier and a few add-on combinations.
- Pick the physical items using the matrix, not memory.
- Check quantity, variant and the required protective packaging.
- Record the finished parcel, label position and packing sequence.
- Resolve missing stock, damaged goods and ambiguous orders before continuing.
A pack-out photo can record the arrangement. It does not by itself prove every parcel is correct or that the packaging meets the chosen delivery service’s requirements. Agree the inspection and packing evidence in the project scope.
Choose the handoff route before labels are printed.
| Route | Confirm with the receiving provider |
|---|---|
| Bulk shipment to a 3PL | Carton contents, SKU labels, carton labels, inbound booking and receiving instructions |
| Direct-recipient parcels | Address format, parcel limits, route availability, tracking and exception handling |
| Split / staged release | Which orders release now, held stock, storage responsibility and later handling cost |
Fulfillment (fulfilment) is a coordination task across packing, transport and receiving. Supported destinations, customs and tax responsibilities must be confirmed for the actual items and route.
Questions to settle before packing starts.
- What is the final reward matrix version, and who approves it?
- When do order changes stop entering the packing file?
- Who resolves shortages, damaged items and unclear add-ons?
- What evidence is recorded at counting, packing and handoff?
- Who handles undelivered, returned or damaged parcels, and on what terms?
Common questions.
Can you kit products from different suppliers?
The work can be assessed using item specifications, arrival plans, quantities and bundle rules. Acceptance checks and handoff responsibilities need to be agreed before items are sent.
Do I need final addresses for a first quote discussion?
No. Start with countries, approximate order counts and parcel contents. Agree the route and controlled recipient-data transfer later.
Is assembly the same as kitting?
No. Assembly joins or fits parts and needs its own method and acceptance checks. Kitting groups finished items into the right reward bundle.
